Yesterday I installed the Brooks on my Bianchi and embarked on a 45 mile trip to run errands. I was on the bike for two 20 mile stretches.
My initial impression was that the saddle felt much better in the more leaned forward position of the Bianchi as compared to the Raleigh. This was a plus. This also all but eliminated the sliding I was experiencing in the more upright position.
That is the good news.
The bad news is that it is still really not a comfortable experience. There is no pressure in the area where the cutout is, but where the sits bones are was definitely sore after the ride. I removed the laces since it seems that the saddle flexes a little better without them. Maybe I'll try re installing them but I'm not thinking that would provide any additional comfort at this point. I also did try pointing the front of the saddle up a bit, but that actually made things worse.
I did about 40 miles yesterday, then jumped back on this morning for my 9 mile commute to work. Still being sore from yesterday the first few minutes were pretty excruciating. Eventually it leveled out to about how comfortable I was yesterday, which was not very.
All is not lost though. I fully expected that this saddle would take some time to get comfy. Maybe even several hundred miles?
I get my comfort rating by comparing the ride to my other saddle, a synthetic that I have shown in another post. That saddle was comfortable right out of the box. So for immediate results my other saddle wins hands down. Time will tell if the Brooks will eventually meet or exceed that comfort level, but for right now if my other saddle is a 10, the Brooks is a 6. I'll keep riding and testing it out, although I have to say at times the thought of using my old saddle has crossed my mind. Not to worry though, I won't give up!
